Genesis announces Electrified G80 sedan pricing and availability

Hyundai and therefore the Genesis division have been making EVs or battery-electric vehicles for sometime. Some of their offerings are on dedicated Ev platforms like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6 and their GV60 sibling. But others take an existing model like the Kia Niro and Soul and convert the existing platcore for EV duty. Since there is a G80 with an ICE engine, the Electrified G80 seems to fall into the latter category. But many automakers develop platforms for double duty allowing for better efficiency in EV guise. The Electrified G80 is a large(ish) sedan that enters the luxury EV sedan market against various Mercedes, Audi, and BMW models not to mention the Tesla Model S. Despite the garish grille (a little gloss black paint never hurt anyone), the E G80 is an attractive conveyance that is only available in one configuration with all the goodies for the price of $79,825 (plus taxes, license, fees, and destination). Three years of free charging (30 minutes a day) at Electrify America is also part of the deal. The E G80's 87.2kWh battery is capable of Rapid Charging from 10-80% in 22 minutes when utilizing 350kW (800V) DC fast charging when available. If you like the styling and you're looking for a new EV sedan Genesis has given you another choice...which is a good thing. Hyundai knows how to build EVs so the Electrified G80 should be on any EV shopper's list as long as the live in California, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and in Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Washington within days of this post.

Genesis Motor America's GV60 EV rolls into showrooms

Hyundai is on an "EV roll" lately after the introduction of the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 and now comes the third roll prong, the Genesis GV60. As Hyundai's luxury division, Genesis' first all new EV rides on the same platform as the other two "prongs" but has more upscale fitments to justify the Genesis name. Of course, that means prices will be higher too, with the GV60 Advanced AWD starting at $56,890 (plus taxes, license, fees, destination) while the current top model, the GV60 Performance AWD, will start at $67,890 +. The GV60 will come with a complete suite of tech and luxury items like various leathers (depending on model and packages chosen), fingerprint and facial recognition systems, digital keys for iPhone and Samsung phones, safety equipment like accident avoidance items and much, much more (check out the media release for a complete rundown by model). The GV60 Performance AWD will feature the dual motor system with 428 hp that will show up in GT versions of the Ioniq 5 and EV6. The GV60 Advanced will feature Hyundai's dual motor EV system with 314 hp. Range is in the neighborhood of 240 miles due to the increased performance, larger wheels, and more weight due to luxury fitments, but that figure is in the usable range for most folks. The GV60 will only be sold in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York initially. All other areas will need to go to Genesis' website for information and instructions. If the GV60 is anywhere near as good as its siblings, Genesis should have a luxury-EV winner on its hands. For more info, click on "read more" below to view the two media releases (including one on the first GV60 US deliveries), a short video and more. Enjoy! Choices, choices. Things are certainly looking up for EV buyers, especially with today's gas prices. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that the GV60 comes with three years of free 30-minute charging sessions on Electrify America.

Genesis shows New GV60 crossover on new dedicated EV platform

Let's get this clear up front, the GV60 does not look like a crossover since it's too low to the ground (AKA no ground clearance) and kinda squashed looking. The GV60 looks like a hatchback sedan on the order of the Tesla Model 3. Of course there is still time to make adjustments to the overall design ahead of the EV's 2022 introduction. The GV60 is handsome using Genesis' dual lighting aesthetic front and rear, although the c-pillar flourish is overdone and not necessary. The yellow/green paint is well...especially when mated to the blue interior. The front grille is below bumper level and is used to cool the batteries. The interior is nicely done with a "floating" console that houses the Crystal Sphere that gives vehicle readiness (by color) and ambient lighting when not driving. While the GV60 dash doesn't ape Tesla's minimalist approach (read easier and cheaper to build), the curved display is nicely done along with the rear-view monitors. I hope those camera/monitor rear-view systems get approved for use in the US soon. Overall this is a nice new EV. Genesis parent Hyundai has lots of EV experience, so this one should be relatively trouble free. Performance, technical features, and pricing will be announced closer to the GV60's on-sale date. More to come... Click on "read more" below to view the media release and one additional pic.

Genesis X concept gets roof-top debut

Hyundai's Genesis division recently unveiled its latest concept, the Genesis X EV GT Coupe on a roof top in downtown Los Angeles. A short video was made to document the event (I mean it is LA after all...and yes I live in the LA environs). The X concept hints at an upcoming EV that utilizes all of Genesis' styling cues to make a voluptuous vehicle. Will it still be a coupe when it gets closer to production?  Who knows, but a sedan version would lose little in the transition from a styling standpoint. The X concept uses the two-lines styling idea to highlight the vehicle's length and lithe proportions. The X concept is an outstanding-looking car and would sell well if the lines make it through the development process. I mean this is just to pretty not to get made. No specs were given other than it is a luxury EV. This one I'd like to see in person. California Govenor Newsom announced today that if the COVID numbers continue to decline and if the vaccination rate continues, California will "get back to normal" around June 15th so maybe there will be an LA Auto Show this year (with masks of course). I'm sure that there will be more to come on this one. I do wonder what's going to happen when all carmakers go after the same customer with premium luxury EVs. Eventually they are going to have to create new EVS for the rest of us, but still with the efficiency, tech, and low-cost of ownership that current EVS have shown. They sell quite a few smaller EVs in Europe and Tesla is making a small(er) EV hatchback for the Chinese market that will supposedly be sold globally, so we shall see. Check out the flowery media release and video after the jump.
