Mercedes Benz unveils the EQE EV at IAA auto show in Munich

Mercedes took the wraps off of its latest EV salvo, the middling (E-Class size) EQE. The EQE doesn't look mid-sized but it is smaller than the luxury EQS with which it shares Mercedes' new EV platform. The EQE continues the sleek, rounded styling and low stance first seen on the EQS which is a big improvement over Mercedes' ICE (internal-combustion engine) models. The interior can features Mercedes' MBUX curved display which is a knock-out (see right) and allows for OTA (over the air) tech updates and pretty much all of their safety and infotainment equipment as either standard or optional. The EQE is, as Mercedes calls it, the "business avant-garde sedan." No specifics are available yet, but preliminary figures show the range should be 300+ miles with such extras as rear-axle steering and more available. The EQE will hit the road in 2022 after a staggered introduction with the EQS with most models built in Germany except for those vehicles destined for China which will be sourced locally. Can't wait to see this one. More to come. Click on "read more" below to view the media release, an "interesting facts" section, a couple of pics, and two videos. Enjoy.

Volvo Concept recharge reflects the pure-electric future of Volvo

Volvo has taken the wraps off of the Concept Recharge (Recharge is what Volvo currently calls their EVs) which is a very clean, attractive design that is indicative of Volvos to come.  While no specifics were given at this time, Volvo is showcasing what is possible with an EV platform. You get flat floors. A larger interior compared to overall size (see rendering after the media release) and easier placement of safety equipment, etc. The beautiful design is instantly recognizable as a Volvo and follows Volvo's Scandinavian "less is more" ethos. While looking long and sleek, the Concept Recharge maintains seat placement and eye levels that SUV/crossover buyers look for and expect. The clean design extends to the interior with a large screen that utilizes the infotainment system develop by Google and Volvo which has gotten high marks from users in the XC40 Recharge EV. Looking forward to this one. Maybe it will show up at the LA Auto Show this fall. Could the Concept Recharge reflect the next XC90 or XC60? Let's hope so.
